Team BOC made a strong start to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 race weekend finishing 5th fastest in the conclusion of the opening practice sessions. Drivers, Jason Richards and Cam McConville shared the top of the time sheets for almost the entire days practice before some rival teams made the switch to new tyres and posted faster times. Team BOC remained on older tyres but showed great speed setting up an exciting weekend for the team.
Brad Jones, Co-Owner:
Quote: ?It was fantastic effort today; the boys had the fastest car on the track for almost the entire day. They were up and down a little with the car?s set up but made the right calls when it mattered. They ran the entire session on old tyres and were only pipped in the last session by guys on green tyres. I think today proved that there is no doubt the new compound tyre isn?t as good as the old one. Fuel economy will also be a problem with the cars burning in excess of five litres per lap.?
Jason Richards Team BOC No 8:
Quote: ?It was great start to the weekend but it could?ve been a lot better. Even on my fastest lap I had a few moments that prevented a really fast time. We ran on old Phillip Island tyres in all sessions and felt we had achieved our aims without having to resort to new tyres. Cam and I were quickest for a lot of the practice session today.?
Cameron McConville Team BOC No 8:
Quote: ?The car felt really good right from the first few laps. It always takes a few laps to get into your groove around this circuit. The car handled well in the tight spots over the top, a good sign this early in the weekend. Today was a strong result on old tyres, but we now have to continue the improvement with practice and more importantly, qualifying tomorrow afternoon.?
