Pole Position at Darwin last year was a highlight of Jason Richards? racing career and a proud day for dad and Tyre Technician Dave Richards.

The Team BOC driver is hoping to repeat his success this weekend but will have to do it without the support of ?wingman? Dave, who is recovering from a broken arm at home in New Zealand.

It is only the eighth race meeting Dave has missed in his son?s 26-year career.

JR will fly into Darwin for the Hidden Valley V8 Supercar round tonight (Tuesday) in time for a military press call at HMAS Coonawarra, Larrakeyah Barracks, Darwin in the morning (Wednesday).

Richards will be at the barracks with team-mates Jason Bright and Karl Reindler, the race cars and team transporters for interviews and a photo opportunity at 10am. Media wishing to attend should register their interest with Megan Haines on 08 8935 5648.

?Out of 26 years of racing it?s only the eighth race my dad?s not been at. You love to have consistency as a driver; he?s renowned for his accuracy on tyre pressures so we?re obviously going to miss him from the technical perspective but it?s also a bit like losing your wing man. He?s gutted because pole position last year was a very proud day for him as well.

?I drove the Abraham tanks up in Darwin when they were brand new; the technology in them was awesome and like any motor racing boy, that?s pretty exciting to be around. I?ve got a big appreciation for what the forces do for us and enjoy all the old school war movies. Theirs is the ultimate game but they thoroughly enjoy what we do as well so there?s a mutual respect.

?In terms of the racing, we?re going to try what we had last year; obviously it was the best on the day so we certainly can?t turn our back to it. Winning pole position is almost harder sometimes than winning a race. Everyone has a fair crack at it; no one?s wheel nuts get stuck in the pits. The fastest is genuinely the fastest so it was a special day for me.?
