Andrew Jones is keen to make the most of this weekend?s races at Sydney Olympic Park after missing out on a childhood friend?s wedding in order to take part.
Jones was drafted into the Team BOC seat after regular driver Jason Richards was diagnosed with an abdominal tumour less than two weeks ago.
Unfortunately Jones had been due to act as best man for a childhood friend in Perth this weekend but says the bride and groom, Rhys and Hannah, have been extremely understanding.
Practice starts on Friday at 10.25am.
"I don't think I'd be racing this weekend if it wasn't for my best mate in the world, Rhys. He's been absolutely terrific about it and I owe him a big thank you.
?The news about JR was sprung on us just before Sandown and it was a massive race weekend emotionally for everyone involved. We?re a family team and everyone who works there is part of that family so everybody feels it.
?Going to Homebush will be a very different approach. I?m going through DVDs of last year, seeing who ran what, who was on the pace, sitting through pre-briefs; I?m just generally better prepared.
?Cameron McConville had very good speed up there last year and our cars this year had very good speed at similar street tracks like Townsville and Gold Coast so I expect the car will be pretty good. I was lucky enough to drive it at the gold Coast and we had good speed against well-credentialed guys like Steve Owen. We were comfortably running with them so we?ll see what we can do this weekend.?
Team BOC regular driver, Jason Richards, was recently diagnosed with an abdominal tumour and will miss the final two rounds of the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series as he undergoes treatment.
All messages of support to Jason should be directed to the team (4/838 Hope Ct., Albury, NSW, 2640) or via the Jason Richards Fan Page on Facebook.
