Squeezing the last few tenths out of a V8 Supercar is all the more nerve-racking on a street circuit, especially when your car is not turning properly.
That is what Team BOC's Jason Bright found out today, saying his car was too unstable in the rear to attack Townsville's tight corners and close walls.
Brighty ended the day 16th-fastest, just 0.75 seconds off the fastest time of the day. Connie from Sneaky Sound System cheered Brighty up at the end of the day, however, glamming up a race suit for a passenger lap in the Team BOC Commodore.
Qualifying for tomorrow's race starts at 11.05am.
"We definitely haven't got the speed at the moment. We improved the car for that last session but it's very unstable at the back. I don't have any confidence in the rear, which makes it very hard to drive around a street track with its tight corners and concrete walls.
"It didn't help that we went backwards with set-up on the second-last run in the fourth session. We had to have a bit of a stab in terms of what we needed for that last run but I think we definitely made in-roads."
