News // LAST THROW OF THE DICE BACKFIRES

Finishing eighth after staring 18th would have been a great result for Team BOC today but, when a safety car was called on lap 66, Jason Bright knew the result was in danger.

Strategy and fantastic race pace got the Team BOC Commodore as high as third at one stage in the 78-lap Clipsal 500 but, when the safety car came out, Bright was running older tyres than the cars around him.

Instead of lining up behind the bunched-up field Bright opted to pit for new rubber and race his way back through. He emerged 14th behind the safety car but, on the restart, was caught in some frantic jostling and ended with broken steering.

V8 Supercars will be back in action at the Australian Grand Prix from March 15-17th

"There's no doubt that running green tyres after that safety car would have been good for us. We would have been vulnerable if we hadn't pitted. I think we would have gone back to tenth but could have got on the podium with fresh tyres so it was the right decision for me.

"After the safety car I was defending and trying to pass people. Rick [Kelly] obviously didn't see there were two cars looking down his inside and turned in right from the other side of the track, but I was already there with Scott Pye.

"The car had good pace. We went longer on that first stint than anyone and we were still hanging in at the end there. After that second stop they came out with lower tanks and fresh tyres and that gave them more speed so our pace didn't look that good towards the end but we would have ended up eighth without the safety car. With the safety car and fresh tyres I think we could have got on the podium."
