News // NO REST FOR BRIGHTY

V8 Supercars' busiest race driver says today's 200km sprint in Townsville was the toughest, despite just getting back from the Le Mans 24 Hours race in France.

Team BOC's Jason Bright says the busy nature of the Townsville street circuit, the high temperatures and the tough competition meant he was exhausted when he got out the car after 70 laps, finishing fifth.

The result was in jeopardy from midway when Bright's exhaust failed, costing the team valuable horsepower. He nursed it home, however, holding off James Courtney for valuable championship points.

Qualifying for race 21 gets underway at 12.45 tomorrow.

"Today was one of the toughest races I've ever done. This joint, you don't get any rest. Cockpit temperatures are warm and that was just a sprint race the whole way so it was a very tough race.

"I didn't make the best start again but it was better than some that I've made! That meant we were a little bit out of position at the beginning there. I think we had the pace on Courtney so we pitted earlier and leapfrogged him.

"I'm pretty happy with how the race went after the start. The car hung in there on its tyres but it seemed like it's broken an exhaust so it got a bit noisy in the car and whether that lost us a bit of power who knows. It usually does.

"I'm still happy with the way the car got through the race and still felt pretty strong at the end there except the tyres had had a fair ringing. I really pushed them to jump Courtney and that usually eats into the end of their life pretty heavily. I got some good points for the championship so roll on tomorrow."
