Story of the day

After yesterday’s three practice sessions, Jason Bright predicted that the car would have top ten pace in qualifying and he was proven largely correct. In first qualifying he managed an eighth place starting position, while in the second - just ten minutes after the conclusion of the first session - he was just outside the ten in thirteenth position.

Race One

From eighth on the grid, Bright held station in the early laps of the race. When both Mostert and Winterbottom in their FPR Falcons suffered separate incidents, Bright moved up to sixth and held it to the flag. While he was unable to keep pace with those in front, he comfortably kept Reynolds, Todd Kelly and Pye at bay.

Race Two

Starting from 13th on the grid, Bright dropped three places at the start and struggled for handling balance. Towards the end of the 23 lap race the Team BOC Commodore went to pass Shane Van Gisbergen on the outside of the final corner but the car was forced on to the dirty part of the track off line and slithered back two positions. Bright eventually finished 17th in a race won by Red Bull’s Jamie Whincup, who claimed his sixth Championship Title with one round remaining.

Driver Quotes

Jason Bright

Race One:

“Early on we had a bad wobble and lost a lot of ground to the guys in front. I thought the pressure was going to be on the whole race but then it seemed to settle down a bit and then we had the pace of the guys behind and started to match the guys in front - at least for a while. The car wasn’t as strong as we’d like it to be but it got better after the first couple of laps, that’s for sure. Generally we had a lot of oversteer in some places and understeer in other places and I just didn’t have much confidence under brakes so I felt like we should’ve been going further back but I wasn’t going backwards. You see it happen every now and again when the track’s not fast and no one ends up going quickly.”

Race Two:

“We were struggling with the rear of the car. I basically can’t carry speed anywhere without losing the rear. We’ll have a good look at it tonight. We’ve got some ideas. The car’s not that much worse than anyone. It’s just so hard with the dirty air behind other cars. It means as soon as we get close it’s really hard to make a pass. I finally got Shane and then I was on the dirty line and went back spots. It’s very frustrating to race here when the track is so dirty off line!”
