Expectations were high in the Team BOC garage after Bright’s sensational pole position for race two yesterday. While the Team BOC Commodore showed glimpses of yesterday’s speed, Bright found the handling more unstable over the kerbs on the unforgiving street circuit and he was unable to make it into the top 10 shootout.
Minutes before race start rain soaked the track. Within 10 laps the rain had cleared however, and everyone was out on slicks in the hot Sydney sunshine – Bright holding a solid ninth place. It wouldn’t last. As it did yesterday, ominous storm clouds gathered and by lap 37 the heavens had well and truly opened. Thunder, lightning and torrential rain pelted the cars as the safety car was released before the race was called off on lap 44. It was a disappointing ending to the final race of the season.
“It was all about not making mistakes and pacing myself in the early part of the race. The rain obviously came down pretty hard. From that point it was all over. It was a bit of a shame. I’m pretty disappointed in the year. We definitely had higher expectations at the start of the year. We’ve got to work on our consistency a little bit and not make quite as many mistakes as a team and as a driver. I think that’s what we’ve got to do to put a championship together. If we can get all of that right in the off season I think we can have a pretty competitive year next season.”
