RACE RECAP

Just when Jason and Andrew looked set to achieve their best result at the Gold Coast street circuit, disaster struck. Andrew had a brilliant start of the line and saw the door quickly closed on him by the cars in front, thus not giving him any room to pass despite having the Team BOC Commodore on the move. Andrew handed the car back to Jason in position 13. Jason managed to move up to position 12 and was looking to charge past a couple more when a hole in the radiator caused them to return to the garage. The crew doing a superb job as usual to fix the car in a matter of minutes; so after 15 minutes (13 laps), Jason returned to the track in 22nd place where he finished the race.

THE DRIVERS WORD

JASON BRIGHT

“That (hole in the radiator) was disappointing. We had a really good car today, we just need to qualify a little bit better again tomorrow. I feel like we’ve got a quick car and just haven’t been able to show that yet.”

“I thought we were making some good ground there and it would have been really good to see where we popped up at the end of the race had we not had the radiator issue.”

“When I came out from the final pit stop on the softs I didn’t know what was going on, there was fluid spraying onto the tyres and I almost shunted it a couple of times. Because of that I had to pit again straight away for the team to replace it.”

ANDREW JONES

“We had a chat as a group before the start of the race, my brief was to get a good start and get through the crucial first couple of laps. Low risk.”

“I felt the car was a little nervous, we had a bit of rear locking there which was then causing it to happen at the front. After about 8-10 laps in my stint the car neutralised and I was able to get good pace, relative to those around me.”
