THE TRACK

Winding its way around the Sydney Olympic Park complex that hosted the 2000 Olympic Games, the Sydney venue is a real mixture of corners and track surfaces. Its designers, including the five time series champion Mark Skaife, have focused on creating a real challenge for the drivers, with a variety of bumps, camber changes and fast and slow corners making it difficult to complete the perfect lap.

SLEUTH STATS

- There have been zero Sydney 500 races held where all cars that started were classified as finishers!

- Three different cars, drivers and teams took the three Sydney 500 poles last year. Jason Bright in the Team BOC Commodore, Scott McLaughlin in the GRM Volvo and Will Davison in the Erebus Mercedes.

- Both Holden and Ford have won 16 races so far this season, making the manufacturers award go right down to the final round in Sydney with three races left.

- Brighty is in the record books here with the closest race-winning margin. He was beaten by Jonathon Webb by only .6375s on Saturdays race in 2010. Not bad considering he started from 28th. What a charge!

- Jason scored pole position here for Saturday’s second race, this is the last time the team has claimed a pole position.

- Jason’s record here shows he finishes in the top 9, or not at all! He has had 4 DNF’s here and 9 top 9 finishes.
