Qualifying – Position: 16th – 1:12.7781 / Pole Position: Jamie Whincup – 1:12.1443
Race 14 – 200kms – Position: 14th / Winner: Jamie Whincup
Jason qualified in 16th position for the first 200km race around the Townsville Reid Park circuit, with only just over half a second separating him and pole position. The strategy for Team BOC today was simple, two pit stops for fuel and tyres, with the final stop leaving 25 laps left for Jason to charge to the finish. With a safety car only coming out in the final laps, it bunched up the field and when the race resumed there were only two laps left for a final sprint. A number of cars made moves in these final laps, Jason was not only fighting for position but trying to defend it. He finished in 14th.
JASON: “It was a frustrating day. We’re using all soft tyres this weekend and we need to find out why we can’t look after them well enough to move forward more. You really need to look after your tyres here and I was trying my best today but it feels like some of the other guys are just able to do it that little bit better. The track is so hard on the left rear tyre here at Townsville. The other parts of the car are working really well at the moment, braking is good, engine is good, we just need to make it all work together and get back to those consistent top ten finishes.”
