Bathurst 1000 - ‘The Great Race’
WINNER: Will Davison / Jonathon Webb
The Great Race was finally here, the day that sees man versus mountain. For Team BOC the pace had been strong in the entire lead up to the 1000 kilometre battle and Jason Bright was excitedly lining up for his 20th time around the mountain. During the early part of the race the team faced a gear sensor issue, which needed repairs, ultimately sending the team a lap down. The team pressed on knowing a safety car or two could put them back in the hunt, but the mountain was set to deliver a cruel end to Team BOC’s race campaign. On lap 92 Andrew Jones made heavy contact with a wall at the top of the mountain, the impact, no less than a whopping 25G’s. Luckily, Andrew was able to walk away from the accident and was ok.
ANDREW “It was a reasonable hit and the right hand side of the back is a bit tender. It’s pretty fast going across the top of the mountain there, the impact was over 25G’s and thankfully these cars are very safe. I’m not 100% sure what exactly happened there, I was only just chatting with the engineers and we didn’t quite have the same side bite we did at the start of the race. It seemed like only a few moments later I was turning the steering wheel to go left it didn’t want to turn left at all. It’s a tough end to the day and I feel bad for the group at Team BOC, it hasn’t been a good day for us. We’ll assess the damage and head to the Gold Coast.”
