The JR Star featured on Jason Richard's helmet and now has a very special place at Team BOC.
The New Zealander passed away on 15 December 2011 after a brave battle with Adreno Cortical Carcinoma (ACC), with which he was first diagnosed in November 2010. He was only 35.
Jason Richards approached his battle with ACC, the same way he approached his racing. His fight inspired and galvanized the V8 supercar community but ultimately proved too big an opponent even for JR.
The fact that rival teams, drivers and manufacturers came together to help him in whatever way possible showed exactly the sort of standing he was held in by the Australasian racing community.
Jason was an integral part of our team, and whilst not sitting in the race car at every round this year, he attended many events and drove one of our cars whenever possible. He was there at Winton to celebrate with us Jason Bright's win, our second in V8 Supercar Championship Series, and a win that was based around the foundation that JR helped build.
He was a truly inspirational character in a number of ways.
In rememberance of JR and as a reminder of his time with our team, the JR Star now shines on each of the team's three V8 supercars.
